HOLDEN Torana LX SLR 5000 & SS Hatchback
In March 1976 GMH was ready to introduce its most prized Torana, the LX, not just in a more refined sedan version, but with an all new ground breaking hatch.
 

The hatch was mechanically identical to the LX Torana sedan and both versions were available in S, SL and SLR badges. The hatchback however offered SS options known as Super Sports.

In all, some 49,902 LX Toranas were built, including 8527 Hatchbacks, during its 17 month life on the market. However, exact production numbers of the genuine A9Xs’ and SS models have always been a hotly debated topic amongst Torana enthusiasts.

Today, original versions of both the SLR 5000 sedan and the “SS” Hatch command solid resale prices, if one can find an owner willing to part with one of these Torana classics, that are perhaps the best cars ever from the Golden Age of Australian Motoring.
