On 16th September, 1963, two men walked off the Sydney Cricket Ground having played in what has been regarded as one of the greatest Rugby League finals of all time. The game was played in the worst possible conditions and as the two left the field, they could hardly be recognized. The moment was captured by the photographer John O'Grady and it went on to become the inspiration for the Winfield Cup. The Cup recognises the final supremacy of the Grand Final winner, and at the same time, symbolizes the wider values of the Big Game. Today, the Winfield Cup stands as the highest accolade in the Rugby year.
